The Complete Guide to Clothing Label Sizes & Placement

Standard label dimensions for necks, hems, sleeves and care positions — plus the placement rules premium brands follow.

The Complete Guide to Clothing Label Sizes & Placement

Get the size wrong and even a beautiful label looks off. Here are the dimensions and placements we produce most, and why they work.

Standard neck label sizes

GarmentCommon sizeFold
T-shirts / streetwear50–70mm wide × 20–30mmEnd fold or straight cut
Hoodies / heavyweight60–80mm × 25–35mmEnd fold
Abayas / dresses25–40mm satin, centeredCenter fold
Kidswear30–45mm, extra softCenter fold

Placement rules the pros follow

  • Neck label: centered on the back neck tape, 10–15mm below the collar seam
  • Hem tag: left hem (wearer's left), folded into the side seam — the streetwear standard
  • Sleeve tab: left sleeve cuff for jackets and outerwear
  • Care label: wearer's left side seam, 100–150mm up from the hem

Size vs weave density

Small labels with fine text need high-density damask — a woven label at 50mm can hold text a printed label would blur. If your logo has thin lines, go one size up or simplify the mark.

The mistake to avoid

Don't copy a big brand's label size onto a different garment weight. A 80mm label that sits flat on a heavyweight hoodie will curl on a lightweight tee. Send us your garment type with your quote request and we'll confirm the right size on your free digital proof.
